SHARE KNOWLEDGE THAT ADVANCES THE PRACTICE OF HOSPITALITY
Editorial Guidelines
These guidelines apply to Fellow Perspectives and Fellow Conversations. They explain what makes a contribution useful, how to structure it, what to provide, and how our editorial process works.
Our Editorial Standard
Hospitality Fellows shares the reasoning behind professional judgment and leadership. Contributions should help practitioners understand challenges, examine approaches, and make informed decisions.
Ground independent thinking in experience and practical application. Explain your reasoning, context, and what others can use. First-person experience and informed viewpoints are welcome.
Selection is based on relevance, substance, reasoning, and practical value. Business examples may provide context; the learning must extend beyond the business. Promotional content does not meet our standard.
Structure Your Contribution
-
Explain the components of an approach you use to evaluate a situation or make a decision, how they work together, and when to use it.
-
Present a methodology or sequence of steps. Explain what happens at each stage, why the order matters, and how to implement it.
-
Identify the measures or signals you watch, how you interpret them, and how they inform action.
-
Explain an idea that guides your judgment and demonstrate how it applies in practice.
-
Describe what experience taught you, the context behind it, and how others can apply the learning.
-
Identify a question worth examining, explain why it matters, and offer a way to work through it.
For written contributions, make the structure visible through headings, numbered steps, criteria, or other useful organization. For conversations, the proposed structure guides preparation and the interview. Explain relevant limitations and how others might adapt your approach.
What to Submit
Accuracy & Originality
Submit your own thinking and work. Credit other people’s ideas, quotations, frameworks, and research.
Verify factual and technical claims. Link to original sources where possible and provide dates and context for data.
Use examples and supporting materials you have permission to share. Remove confidential or identifying information where necessary.
AI may assist with preparation or editing, but your experience, reasoning, and judgment must remain central. You are responsible for checking every claim, citation, and quotation.
Editorial Review and Participation
Ready to share what experience has taught you?
All proposals and submissions are reviewed for alignment with our mission, relevance, depth, quality of reasoning, practical usefulness, and editorial priorities. Submitting a proposal or written contribution does not guarantee selection or publication.
We may request sources, clarification, revisions, or restructuring, and decline work that does not meet our standards.
Accepted written contributions are subject to editing for accuracy, clarity, organization, length, and style. Headlines, summaries, and presentation may also be revised. Substantive changes will be discussed with contributors. Hospitality Fellows retains final editorial discretion over selection, presentation, and publication timing.
Fellow Conversations are prepared and edited to make the contribution clear and useful while preserving the participant’s meaning.
Your contribution also supports a longer-term purpose: a searchable body of hospitality knowledge organized by field of practice. Over time, Hospitality Fellows will connect contributions to develop cases, practical resources, and original research that help advance the industry.
